BRENDA, BRaunschweig ENzyme DAtabase (www.brenda-enzymes.org), established in 1987, is the most comprehensive and widely used enzyme information resource. BRENDA provides free access information on classified enzymes, their function, occurrence, genetic context, metabolic role, structure, and specificity. The datasets are used by thousands of scientists of all areas of life sciences worldwide as a basis for their research. As a part of the BRENDA team, your task will be the implementation of the new BRENDA website and the development of a new data update pipeline in close coordination with members of the BRENDA team, as well as developers from other teams at the DSMZ.
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
Proficiency in web development, knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
Experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages (Python, PHP, Java, C#, C++...), hands-on experience with Python is an asset
Knowledge of relational (SQL) or document-based databases (NoSQL e.g. MongoDB) or interest in becoming familiar with them
Effective communication and collaboration abilities in a multidisciplinary team environment
Good knowledge of German and English
Knowledge in the administration of Linux server systems is an asset
